Could someone please proof read my intro for a scholarship essay?

To truly promote diversity, one must first understand the true meaning of the word "diversity". Because I live in a predominately white community, I am frequently the sole representation of explicit diversity among my peers. Often, diversity is mistakenly limited to the color of one's skin or the slant of one's eyes, but diversity goes much further than outward appearances, as it is the condition of the heart, body, and mind. Diversity incorporates the sum of ones uniqueness, which cannot be understood by a quick glance or a study of one's credentials. I am a representation of diversity, but I alone cannot obtain it. True diversity engrosses the individuality of many.
